Gamblers from all over the world come to Las Vegas every year to relax and play in the casino. This city has a huge number of entertainment centers. Many of them, in addition to casinos, also have hotels, shopping centers, restaurants, concert venues, and other entertainment. But one of the most famous complexes is Caesars Palace. In this review, we will learn more about why it is so famous, and why millions of tourists strive to get there.

Caesars Palace is a huge entertainment complex, the building of which is decorated in the style of Ancient Rome. Inside there is a hotel with 3960 rooms, and the complex itself takes 10th place in the ranking of the largest hotels in the world.

History

Jay Sarno, an American developer, owner of many hotels and casinos in the United States, became the author of the idea to create the complex. He designed and owned the Atlanta Cabana Motel in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as several motels in California and Texas. In addition to founding Caesars Palace, he was also the creator of the Las Vegas circus.

The complex was built in 1966. In the first few years of its existence, it attracted mainly pop stars with performances. Stars such as Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, Bette Midler, and others performed on the Caesars Palace stage. Spectacular events were organized here almost every evening.

One of the most memorable shows in the history of this complex was the performance of the American stuntman Evel Knievel. A year after the opening of Caesars Palace, it was here that the artist made his motorcycle jump through the fountain of the complex. However, due to an unsuccessful landing, he received numerous injuries. Despite the sad ending of the show, this performance remained in the memory of the audience for a long time – and the workers of the complex still remember this unforgettable evening.

In 1980, the famous fight between Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes took place here. In addition, the hotel has twice hosted the Caesars Palace Formula 1 Grand Prix.

In 2003, the Colosseum was built on the territory of the complex – a theater stylized in the ancient Roman spirit with 4300 seats. It was built specifically for performances by Celine Dion, accompanied by acrobats from Cirque du Soleil. Subsequently, in addition to Celine Dion, Elton John also began to perform here, and since then they have performed at the Colosseum in turn.

The Caesars Palace building consists of six towers: Augustus, Centurion, Forum, Palace, Roman, and Octavius.

In 2016, the complex celebrated its 50th anniversary. An exhibition devoted to the history of the complex was held especially for the birthday. It briefly described all the stages of the formation of one of the most popular entertainment complexes in the world:

1964

This year, Jay Sarno took out a $10.6 million loan and leased a plot in Las Vegas to build his hotel – originally called The Desert Cabana. His idea was successful, and four years later he was able to buy the site on which Caesars Palace stood for $5 million.

1967

On December 31, at Caesars Palace, the famous jump over the fountains took place, which eyewitnesses still remember. Stuntman Evel Knievel convinced Sarno that he could jump over the hotel’s fountains on his motorcycle. The owner of the hotel agreed to provide him with a venue for the performance, but after an unsuccessful landing, Knievel fractured his pelvic and femoral bones and spent 29 days in a coma. In 1989 his son Robbie Knievel repeated the stunt. This time everything went well.

1970

As early as 1968, Frank Sinatra began performing regularly at Caesars Palace. However, in 1970, Frank Sinatra argued with casino manager Sanford Waterman. The manager pulled out a gun, which greatly frightened the singer: since then, Sinatra did not appear at the hotel until 1974.

1992

A large shopping center Forum with an area of 26 thousand square meters was opened on the territory of the hotel this year. m and the Spago restaurant, where the famous Wolfgang Puck became the chef. Later, the area of the shopping center increased to 60 thousand square meters. m. Today it houses more than 150 boutiques, including such well-known brands as Cartier, Tiffany & Co. And Van Cleef & Arpels.

2009

Caesars Palace starred in the film “The Hangover” – the heroes of the film are settled in this hotel. Alan, performed by Zach Galifianakis, asks the sacramental question: “Did the same Caesar live here?” After the release of the film, the popularity of the hotel increased several times – customers began to book rooms a year in advance.

2016

By 2016 Caesars Palace managed to change owners several times. Today the hotel is owned by Caesars Entertainment Corp. In addition, small stakes are also held by Apollo Global Management and Paulson & Co.

Even though the casino declared bankruptcy in 2015, the hotel continues to live. Last year, the restaurant Mr. Chow, and world stars Celine Dion, Elton John, and Mariah Carey still perform at the Colosseum Theater.

Entertainment in Las Vegas

Historically, casinos in Las Vegas were only allowed downtown on Fremont Street. However, after the Second World War, there was a rapid development in this industry, so there was no place for everyone who wanted to open their own business. It was this fact that forced some entrepreneurs to open their establishments outside the administrative boundary of the city. This is how the famous Las Vegas Strip appeared – the most famous street in Las Vegas, where today most of the largest hotels and casinos are located.

In addition to hotels, themed casino hotels began to open – for example, in 1997, New York-New York opened on the Strip. In addition, hotels appeared in the form of a desert with the Statue of Liberty and roller coasters, a hotel copying the style of Italian Venice, and many others. Light shows and musical fountains have also become popular.

Today Las Vegas is a true paradise for gamblers and party lovers. There is no such concentration of entertainment facilities anywhere else in the world. That is why millions of tourists come to Las Vegas every year to spend their money and have a good time.
